IPL 2018, Match 26 DD vs KKR Preview - All eyes on Shreyas as DD strive to arrest slide

All eyes on Shreyas as DD strive to arrest slide. Delhi Daredevils sit at the bottom of the table. A new team, new coach and a new captain are not helping their fate, which just doesn’t seem to be in any mood to change. Kolkata, on the similar lines, does everything right, and have everything, still won’t be satisfied with their position in the table.

Delhi is still having problems with their batting, and although the last match was a close finish, they will not be happy with the way their batters performed. They lost by 4 runs, but remember they were only chasing 143 runs. Apart from Shreyas Iyer, no batsman looked threatening to Kings XI Punjab. Earlier, while bowling, Liam Plunkett and Trent Boult were pretty decent with the bowl, with Plunkett taking 3 wickets with an economy of just 4. Their bowling department looks sorted.

Duckworth-Lewis, Chris Gayle, and Lokesh Rahul are the reason Kolkata lost their last match. With Chris Lynn, Robin Uthappa and Captain Karthik playing superbly, Kolkata made 191 in their 20 overs. With that score, a T20 team might feel safe. But Punjab had Gayle and Rahul. They scored 126 in 12 overs, and made sure they clear the target set by Duckworth-Lewis. While the bowling was all over the place, Sunil Narine was the only saving grace with conceding 23 in 3 overs, and taking the only wicket of the innings.

Team News :

Delhi :

G Gambhir step down from captaincy of Delhi but he will be available for selection as a player. S Ayer will lead the DD team.

DD captain Shreyas Iyer
Shreyas Iyer will try to change DD's fortunes after being named captain.

Jason Roy and Chris Morris both missed last game due to injuries. Jason Roy missed because he has Side Strain while Morris missed last game due to Back injury.

If Daredevils team want strong their batting lineup then then can include J Roy or Munro in place of Daniel Christian.

Kolkata :

Though Kolkata has lost the last match with their bowling, they are still expected to go unchanged as this lineup is the the reason they have won their previous matches. If they are keen to change a bowler, Mitchell Johnson might come in.

A Russell went off the field because he stretched his right thigh in their last game against Kings XI Punjab. but he expected to play. If he not fully fit then he can play as a pure batsmen only.

Kolkata Knight Riders: 1 Chris Lynn, 2 Sunil Narine, 3 Robin Uthappa, 4 Nitish Rana, 5 Dinesh Karthik (wk), 6 Andre Russell, 7 Shubman Gill, 8 Tom Curran, 9 Piyush Chawla, 10 Shivam Mavi, 11 Kuldeep Yadav.

Previous meeting

Daredevils found a way to keep both Sunil Narine and Chris Lynn quiet, but had no answers against Andre Russell, whose breathtaking 12-ball 41 powered Knight Riders to 200. Three early wickets meant Daredevils never got going in their chase, and eventually lost by 71 runs.

Teams Strategy

Knight Riders (19.1 overs in six matches) have bowled by far the most Powerplay overs of spin of any team this season. It's partly down to circumstances: they have lost key fast bowlers to injury, have been forced to conserve Russell's hamstrings, and also happen to be blessed with an excellent spin attack.

With this in mind, Daredevils could look to unsettle Knight Riders by promoting their best players of spin up the order. At least two out of Rishabh Pant (T20 strike rate of 157.5 against spin since 2015), Colin Munro (142.5) and Glenn Maxwell (151.4) could bat in the top three if Daredevils adopt this strategy.
