Ab & Moeen help RCB to win a thrilling match against SRH

Kane Williamson's rousing 81 off 42 balls - his eighth fifty-plus score in IPL 2018 - threatened to bring Royal Challengers Bangalore's campaign to a screeching halt, but Mohammed Siraj defended 19 off the last over, which also included the wicket of the Sunrisers captain, to keep his team alive.

Facing an IPL record chase of 219 at the venue of their title triumph two years ago, Sunrisers slipped to 64 for 2 in eight overs. Williamson then manipulated the fields and the bowlers expertly to bring Sunrisers to within touching distance of a magical win. With Sunrisers needing 20 off the last over, he jumped across off stump and scooped Siraj's first ball straight into the lap of Colin de Grandhomme at the edge of the fine leg boundary. Siraj did not quite nail his lengths but got away with four runs and a leg bye off the last five balls.

Earlier in the evening, AB de Villiershad also manipulated the fielders and bowlers expertly along withMoeen Ali in a 107-run stand off 57 balls, which formed the centerpiece of RCB's 218 for 6.

IPL 2018, Match 50 MI vs KXIP Thrilling Match Highlights

2:03 PM
IPL 2018 Match 50 Highlights
Pollard and Bumrah help MI to keep hopes alive for Playoffs
Mumbai Indians had so much to overcome. First, they were asked to bat in favourable chasing conditions. Then, Andrew Tye claimed his third four-for in four games, his 4 for 16 limiting Mumbai to 186. And then another excellently paced chase from KL Rahul put Mumbai on the brink of elimination. Faced with all that adversity, Mumbai needed both skill and luck. They were blessed to have two key players, Jasprit Bumrah and Kieron Pollard, performing at their best.

Bumrah finished with 3 for 15, but the coup de grace came in his final over, the penultimate of the game. With 22 runs to defend off 12 balls, he conceded just six and had Rahul caught at long-off. Mitchell McClenaghan did just enough in the final over to ensure a three-run win, carrying Mumbai's fight into the final weekend of the regular season.

But it was Pollard, brought back into Mumbai's side, that stunned Kings XI with a 23-ball 50. He ensured Mumbai had enough to defend and gave them just enough room for error.

Scorecard

Mumbai Indians 186 for 8 (Pollard 50, Krunal 32, Tye 4-16) beat Kings XI Punjab 183 for 5 (Rahul 94, Finch 46, Bumrah 3-15) by three runs

IPL 2018, Match 49 KKR vs RR Match Highlights

Kuldeep Yadav and Russel push KKR for Playoffs
Kuldeep Yadav and Russel push KKR for Playoffs

Kolkata Knight Riders strengthened their position in the playoffs race after a spectacular collapse from their opponents, Rajasthan Royals, left them a relatively straightforward 143 to chase at the Eden Gardens. Sent in to bat, Royals rocketed to 59 for 0 in just four overs before losing their way completely, losing all their wickets in the next 15 overs for the addition of only 83 runs. Kuldeep Yadav, teasing the batsmen with his variations and changes of pace, finished with figures of 4 for 20, the best of his IPL career.

Unlike Royals, KKR's top order hasn't been reliant on one or two individuals this season, and once again they had contributions from a number of batsmen in their chase, the most sizable of them being forties from Chris Lynn and Dinesh Karthik. They got home with two overs to spare, ensuring they gave their net run rate a handy fillip ahead of their final league game.

Umesh Yadav ambushed KL Rahul and Chris Gayle with short balls and the rest of Kings XI Punjab's batting line-up made lemmings seem cautious as they were knocked over for 88 in 15.1 overs. Royal Challengers Bangalore chased it down with almost 12 overs to spare and boosted their net run-rate, from -0.26 to +0.21, and their playoff qualification chances. The result also confirmed a top-two finish for current table-toppers Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Kings XI had suffered a big blow even before the first ball was bowled: their top wicket-taker Mujeeb Ur Rahman was sidelined with a hand injury sustained in his previous game against Kolkata Knight Riders. On the flip side, they recalled Marcus Stoinis to bolster a batting line-up that had Axar Patel at No. 6 on Saturday. Stoinis, however, yorked himself against Yuzvendra Chahal and was part of an irreparable collapse. Three of the last four wickets were chaotic run-outs, which summed up Kings XI's approach on a pitch that wasn't as flat as the one that produced a run aggregate of 459 on Saturday, but it wasn't unplayable either.

Pakistan chiseled out four wickets during the morning session at Malahide, as they closed in on victory in Ireland's inaugural Test. Mohammad Amir was fit enough to bowl a seven-over spell, picking up two wickets - although he then limped off the field once again. Kevin O'Brien and Paul Stirling repaired some of the damage after Ireland were reduced to 95 for 4, but they were still 57 runs from making Pakistan bat again after following on.

Resuming on 64 without loss, Ed Joyce and William Porterfield took their opening stand to 69 before a direct hit from mid-on by Faheem Ashraf saw Joyce run out for 43. Mohammad Abbas then trapped Andy Balbirnie lbw - making him the first Irishman to record a pair in Tests - before Amir rattled the stumps of Niall O'Brien and had Porterfield caught behind during an exacting spell.
